Empower Her Cameroon Consortium Engages 100 Girls at Lycée de OuroTchédé Ahead of Youth Day

On February 9, 2026, the Empower Her Cameroon Consortium, made up of Audacious Voices, PsychoSynergy, and Education For All, held an inspirational and educational discussion at Lycée de Ouro Tchédé in Maroua.

This initiative took place just days before Cameroon’s Youth Day celebrations, a moment when the nation reflects on the promise and potential of its young people. For us, it was an opportunity to go beyond celebration and invest directly in the girls who are often overlooked.

Purpose of the Activity

The session aimed to motivate, inform, and empower underprivileged female students by addressing the academic, personal, and social challenges that shape their futures. It forms part of a broader commitment to support girls in building confidence, resilience, and ambition.

Participants

Nearly 100 girls, aged 15 to 20, took part in the session.

The Consortium received a warm welcome from the Headmistress, whose support was essential in preparing the space and mobilizing the students.

Key Modules Covered

The discussion unfolded in an interactive and engaging atmosphere, guided by three core presentations:

1. Thinking Big in the 21st Century

Presented by Dr. Shula Judith, Audacious Voices

A call for girls to expand their vision, challenge limitations, and embrace the possibilities of a rapidly evolving world.

2. Embracing Dreams + Learning Strategies for Academic Success

Presented by Mr. Sanda Konai, Education For All

Practical tools and techniques to help students study effectively, stay motivated, and pursue their goals with intention.

3. Understanding How Gender‑Based Violence and Harmful Practices Affect Girls’

Presented by Prof. Mbiah Flaure, PsychoSynergy

A powerful conversation on the social and cultural barriers that hinder girls’ progress — and how awareness and support can help break these cycles.

The girls engaged actively, raising questions about self esteem, academic pathways, and the pressures they face within their communities.

Assessment and Next Steps

At the end of the session, participants received assessment forms to identify their needs and aspirations. The data collected will help the Consortium select 50 girls for the next phase of the program — a deeper, more personalized journey of mentorship and support

Outcome of the Activity

This educational talk created a meaningful shift in the students’ mindset and motivation. Key outcomes include:

  • Increased confidence: Many girls expressed renewed belief in their ability to pursue higher education and long term goals.
  •  Greater awareness: Students gained clarity on how gender based violence and harmful cultural practices affect their academic and personal development.
  • Improved academic readiness: The learning strategies shared equipped them with practical tools to improve their study habits and performance.
  • Stronger engagement: The high level of participation demonstrated the girls’ eagerness for guidance, mentorship, and safe spaces to express their concerns.
  • Foundation for continued support: The assessment forms will allow the Consortium to tailor interventions and provide targeted support to the 50 selected girls.

This activity not only informed and inspired — it laid the groundwork for sustained impact.
